Over the past 6 weeks hundreds of affiliates have fought it out online to qualify for the Affiliate Series of Poker (ASOP) which is an offline poker tournament for affiliates in the iGaming industry - Previous prizes have included thousands in dollars, WSOP main event tickets, trips to the Bahamas and of course the ASOP gold and diamond bracelet which can not be bought for any amount of $$$. The Amsterdam ASOP was a little different from the start as gambling is extremely strict in Holland because the bulk of it is state owned, and oddly enough in a country where you can take drugs and ;-) , you can't play a game of poker within a closed and controlled business to business conference. But this didn't stop the AAC organisers; they spent fortunes on lawyers and in the end got permission to run an ASOP with no prizes just the ASOP bracelet which would be on loan for 12 months for the winner. Unfortunately this wasn't enough though and on the Friday preceding the event the organisers heard through their lawyers that the police weren’t happy so in reaction all prizes were removed. But hey iGaming isn't as simple as that - So on the day of the event word got round that the police were going to come down and check out the event and in particular the poker tournament so after several discussions the tournament was postponed and moved online - "It just wasn't worth the risk" commented event organiser Alex Pratt, "We are responsible for over 1,000 delegates and 50+ exhibitors and in an industry as sensitive as ours we can't risk bad press or conflict with any authorities especially for just one small part of AAC - The event was perfectly legal but the police could still within rights take people in and question them and I am sure you will agree the ASOP although amazing wasn't worth that risk." There is good news though - The event will now be moved online and as the organisers don't have the law to content with they will be adding in some cash with the prize which is an even bigger bracelet than ever before - keep an eye out for the dates and times.
